Story:
Nitin Bankar (Akshay) is a frustrated driver cum house help of a rude rich lady, Archana (Archana Puran Singh) in Singapore. His best pal, Ram Mishra (Shetty) who is a courier delivery man is not happy either. Both have rich girl friends, Anjali (Katrina) and Manpreet (Sameera) respectively. In an attempt to get rich quick and marry them, both Ram and Nitin devise a plan to kidnap Archana’s pet possession, her doggy Mulchand. But their kidnapping plan goes awry and leads to many misunderstandings. To add more chaos, Manpreet’s wedding preparations to a shady businessman Chaddha’s (Paresh Rawal) son begins in the same hotel where Nitin and Ram are hiding after their kidnapping fiasco. Confusion and misunderstandings multiply tenfold when a contract killer, Kala (Johnny Lever), his underworld don boss Maamu (Asrani), Anjali, Anjali’s father (Tinnu Anand), Indian Ambassador (Vikram Gokhale), a bar dancer (Neha Dhupia) and Policeman (Sharat Saxena) too land up in the same hotel. What happens after Nitin accidentally gets locked in Chaddha’s hotel room cupboard is what the rest of the film all about.
If you have ventured into the cinema hall expecting a repeat of Hera Pheri considering it’s the same team of director Priyadarshan along with his trio of Akki-Sunil-Rawal then you will be in for a major disappointment. In fact Rawal doesn’t share a single frame with Akshay and Sunil all throughout the movie. But at the same time one needs to appreciate Priyadarshan for being plot centric than falling for the populist trap of getting them together. However, he takes a lot of time to establish his characters in the initial reels. Once the entire cast is assembled in the hotel, then the film picks up speed. The second half is lot better than the first one despite Akshay and Sunil taking a back seat. It is almost like watching Malamaal Weekly where character artists take center stage and even successfully pull it off. The climax however with the water tank bursting and a Tsunami of sorts coming inside the huge star hotel, though extremely well shot was not needed. It is like the same old Priyadarshan climax where everyone is running behind everyone but this time in a flooded hotel. You also wonder why Priyadarshan makes almost his every character speak loudly while delivering their dialogues. The sequences that have you literally rolling on the floor with laughter are – Akshay’s monologue about his drudgery filled life working under his lady boss, Johnny Lever’s chloroform marathon, Sunil Shetty catching waiter Rajpal Yadav sneaking drinks, the dog napping sequences and Vikram Gokhale caught in a mess with philandering allegations. Pritam’s music doesn’t impress barring the ill timed Paisa Paisa song.
Akshay Kumar is at his home pitch in any Priyadarshan comedy and he is in top form yet again. But we do miss him in action when he gets locked in the cupboard for a good 30 minutes. Sunil Shetty gives him terrific support. Paresh Rawal is mostly relegated to screeching at the top of his voice. Manoj Joshi though screechy as well, impresses more. Both the girls Katrina and Sameera have nothing much to do. It’s actually Neha Dhupia who not only looks super hot throughout the film but leaves you mega impressed with her no holds barred act. Archana Puran Singh and Aditi Gowitrikar look ultra glam and deliver the goods as well. Shakti Kapoor, Asrani, Tinnu Anand and Sharat Saxena lend good support. However its Rajpal Yadav and Johnny Lever who leave you laughing your guts out with their antics the most.
De Dana Dan is no Hera Pheri but has its howlarious moments. However, with a running time of 2 hours and 45 minutes it over stays its visit for a comedy. Check it out if you are willing to suspend your belief and keep your brains aside for that long.
Caution:
This film is not meant for those who are looking for logical cinema!! De Dana Dan In case you have moved passed the above line; it means that you are looking for hardcore entertainment and in this context; Priyadarshan’s ‘De Dana Dan’ will not disappoint you. While it is not exactly a laugh-a-thon, it will not let you get bored as well. Let us make one thing clear here - ‘De Dana Dan’ is not a sequel to ‘Hera Pheri’ or ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, even though it has the trio of Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and Paresh Rawal. In fact, the three actors are not even seen together in too many scenes.
‘De Dana Dan’ has its base in a medley of weird characters interacting with each other. Do not expect much of a storyline here; rather it is the mix-n-match of over two dozen characters that makes you smile, laugh and guffaw. It is a loud-film, with some characters screaming at the top of their voice, while others delivering the punches in a too calm a voice! The flick has its flaws as well. It is quite erratic - beaming with energy in some places and going excessively lethargic in others. On top of that, it seems to become too lengthy towards the end.
‘De Dana Dan’ suffers from two serious drawbacks. One is that it fails to exploit the mind-boggling chemistry and Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and Paresh Rawal. The other is that Aksahy Kumar is removed from the scenes for as much as 20 minutes in the second half, with the focus being shifted to other characters. His presence would have surely made the film much more enjoyable. Taking about the other aspects, dialogues woo you with their humor and wit and the background score is energetic. As for the songs, they lack any luster.
In terms of performance, the deluge of characters in ‘De Dana Dan’ makes it difficult to pinpoint any single performance. Still, Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and Paresh Rawal are at their very best (wish we could see them together in more scenes). Johny Lever is excellent, while Neha Dhupia, Manoj Joshi, Asrani, Vikram Gokhale and Archana Puransingh also deserve applause. However, the leading ladies - Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy, didn’t get to do much. All in all, the movie is not bad for watching on an otherwise boring weekend!

| Review-
For the first time, the off screen love birds Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are pairing up and the expectations are high since it is also coming from Karan Johar. While the posters created a bit of controversy, here is a look at whether the film is worth or not.
Story:
A love tale ridden with terror, the story begins on the backdrop of a university in Delhi and here is Avantika (Kareena), a professor who returns from New York to see her ailing father and joins the university. Her life takes a turn with the joining of the new professor Ehsaan Khan (Saif) and in no time, he manages to woo her and win her heart as well. Soon, Avantika gets a call to return to New York and Ehsaan offers to join her. They get married, take a home, find new Muslim neighbors and even visit their place for dinner. One day, Salma (Nauheed) comes to Avantika and asks for help as her life is in danger. Soon, Avantika is exposed to a vicious layer of plots and realizes that she was just a part of it. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Saif Ali Khan: He has come up with a decent performance and looked apt with the icy look. Unlike his energy driven performances, this was rather calm and suited the character.
Kareena Kapoor: She looks beautiful and has enacted the emotional scenes very well. However, she needs to put an extra ounce of flesh on her body that would make her look even more charming. She looks trendy.
Vivek Oberoi: His character had depth and intensity and Vivek carried his role with élan, his expressions during the serious scenes were impact creating.
Om Puri: He is the best bet for such a role and though he looks too elegant for a fundamentalist, his cold stare and heavy dialogue delivery sure makes him look like the perfect mastermind.
Kirron Kher: She carries her role with elegance and her presence was felt strongly on the screen. There is maturity in her performance and her screen chemistry is effective.
Dia Mirza: Her role was brief but she looks pretty though she doesn’t have that Muslim girl look.
Others: Nauheed looks sweet but scary after she is dead, the American actors were good, Akash Khurana just came and went, Kulbushan Kharbanda shines for few seconds.
Highlights: Dialogues, Background Score, Cinematography
Limitations: Predictable Screenplay, Slow narration, Directorial flaws (how the trains move away without stopping when a mission against international terrorism is going on?? Watch the film to know about this in detail)
Analysis:
This is like any other film on terrorism but with US backdrop. The movie Newyork, the Wednesday, Mani Rathnam’s Roja etc fall in this genre but everything has its own convincing line of narration with set-characters. Kurbaan is one such film.
The main drawback in this film is it has got no much energy in narration and less thrilling moments as its quite predictable for audiences those who have used to this kind of films. The plus side in this film is that t has got horripilate background score that pulls audiences to screens with pin drop silence.
There is a message in this film for girls especially- ‘Don’t blindly allow your new found lovers to fly along with you to any country as dependant. Your life may get screwed!!!”
On a whole, the commercial quotient in this film is meager although it has got a hot nude song that pulls a set of crowds. Otherwise, it is a good film with no great features.
Bottom Line: Nothing bad that irks audiences. It\'s good.
