Mr. Neiphiu Rio: Son of Late Guolhoulie Rio of Tuophema village in Kohima District; Tribe –Angami Naga; born on 11.11.1950; married-5 daughters and 1 son ; received early education from Baptist English School, Kohima and Sainik School, Purulia in West Bengal, received higher education from St. Joseph’ college, Darjeeling and graduated from Kohima Arts College.

Active Student leader while in School and Colleges; Honorary vice- President IRCS Nagaland branch; Life time Deputy governor (Honorary) Board of Governors, American Biographical Institute Research Association since 1999; attended 44th National Breakfast Prayer Meeting programme on invitation of US Senate in Washington DC, USA 2000; once escaped providentially in an assassination bid on life on May 30, 1995.

Entered politics; President, Kohima District UDF Youth Wing 1974; Acting President, UDF Youth Wing Nagaland in 1976-1977; Chairman, Northern Angami Area Council 1984; Member AICC (I) 1993- 2002; resigned from Congress(I)2002; joined NPF; member, Working Committee NPF till date.

First elected to Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Northern Angami-II constituency on congress (I) ticket in the 7th General Elections of 1989; appointed Minister for Sports & School Education; subsequently appointed Cabinet Minister for Higher & Technical Education, Art & Culture; served as Chairman, NIDC, NKVIB and Development Authority of Nagaland ; re-contested and elected from the same Constituency as Congress (I) candidate in the General Electionsof 1993;appointed Minister for Works & Housing; Re- elected from Northern Angami-II in 1998 General Election and appointed Minister for Home; resigned from S.C. Jamir led Congress(I) Ministry on September 20, 2002; resigned from the membership of the 9th house and the party on 7.11.2002; participated in the formation of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN); contested and elected again from Northern Angami-II A/C on NPF ticket; ultimately elected leader of DAN on 5.3.2004 and appointed Chief Minister of Nagaland on 6th March 2003.
