🍛 Annadanam · The hands that feed Hyderabad

Annadanam in Hyderabad & Secunderabad

A temple kitchen feeds whoever comes — that is its duty, and this city is grateful for it. But look closer at Hyderabad's daily free meals and you find something greater: people. A student who has served breakfast outside our hospitals every morning for nine years without missing a day. A bank official whose team has cooked for strangers for a decade. This page honours them first — and lists every regular free-meal service we have verified across the twin cities, so that anyone who is hungry, and anyone who wants to help, knows where to go.

Hyderabad's annadanam heroes

Institutions run kitchens. People keep promises. These are the individuals whose daily service — measured in years, not occasions — makes them living legends of this city. Their full stories appear in our Builders of Hyderabad series.

Mohd Sujathullah — Humanity First Foundation

A Doctor of Pharmacy student who in November 2016 carried 120 plates of upma to Niloufer Hospital — and never stopped. Every day since, through rain, exams and the pandemic, his Humanity First Foundation has served free breakfast to over 1,000 patients and attendants outside Niloufer, the Government Maternity Hospital at Koti and NIMS. More than 10 million meals served. His first-ever feeding was a plate of rice and curry for a stranger at Secunderabad Railway Station. His idea, in his campaign's words: “Hunger has no religion, only humanity.”

Muhammad Aziz — the 5 AM kitchen outside NIMS

A bank official whose day begins at 5 AM, when a cook starts preparing fresh food for 300–500 people. For about ten years, Aziz and his volunteers have served a free meal daily outside NIMS to the families who sleep on pavements waiting for news of a loved one. There is no bank account and no cash donation — supporters send groceries, and the team covers the cook, transport and fuel themselves. Sundays bring fruit for patients at MNJ Cancer Hospital; winter brings blankets. His idea: the patient inside has doctors — the family outside has no one, so someone must be there for them, every day.

No donation link, by design — support reaches this team as groceries and time.

Want to serve, not just read?

Annadanam grows one volunteer at a time. Cook, pack, carry, serve — or sponsor a day's kitchen where the service accepts it (at the Hare Krishna Golden Temple, ₹2,700 sponsors a day's annadanam for 100 people). The langar at Ameerpet welcomes sewa volunteers every Sunday. And if you know a person who serves food daily and asks for nothing — a neighbour, a tea-stall owner, a night volunteer — tell us their name. Real heroes are usually the ones nobody has written about yet.
